The Pilots Are Over

Europe’s electric mine has left the test site. What remains is the grid, the mill, the money, and the liability. Two days. One room. The people converting Europe’s mines to electricity, in the heart of its electrified mining region.

Europe's independent, operator-led summit for the production era of mine electrification.

The trials are done. The prototypes are parked. Europe’s mining industry is now converting active brownfield and greenfield sites into fully electrified operations and discovering that the hardest problems were never in the vehicle.

EMES 2027 convenes the people doing the conversion for two days in Luleå, Sweden, headquarters of LKAB and home of the HYBRIT fossil-free steel initiative: the epicentre of Europe’s decarbonized mining sector. One room. Every session. No sales decks. There are no parallel streams splitting your attention, and no sanitized equipment roadmaps. Speakers are operators, utilities, underwriters, and auditors presenting field data including what failed. Sessions cover mixed-fleet dual-fuel logistics, brownouts on rural 20kV feeds, and the bankability of alternative OEM supply chains.

Every session is anchored to a deadline that has already arrived. The EU Battery Passport became mandatory in February 2027. CRMA Strategic Project permitting is moving. NIS2 obligations are live across industrial grid systems. Post-2030 ETS carbon costs are already entering every electrification business case. This is not a summit about regulations coming. It is a summit for the first year they bite.
